Last week, I “tweaked” my back doing yardwork. Today, I went to the chiropractor to see if he could take care of the discomfort I was still feeling. The first stage of treatment came as I lay on my side on a short bench. He positioned my body and then dropped his weight on my hips. The second stage came as I lay face down on the table and he pushed on different places in my back. I walked out of the office amazed by the difference a little adjustment brought: once again, I could walk freely, for the pain and discomfort were gone.
It is amazing the difference a little adjustment can make. I reflected on this as I have been reading through the life of Jesus in my morning devotions for the past 2 months. I told a group of our church planters yesterday that I wanted to spend time “hanging out” with Jesus in the hope that he would “rub off” on me. These morning times with Jesus are very important for he makes needed “adjustments” to my life as I spend time with him.
Watching Jesus act and respond to people gives great insight into the way I should act and respond to people and situtations I encounter each day. Looking at and listening to Jesus adjusts my thinking as he gives me the treatment I need. Seeing his example frees me to walk differently than I would on my own. Anyone out there looking for an adjustment? I wonder what The Doctor can do for you?
