Yesterday, I attended Crossroads Christian Church (one of Ignite’s new churches in Joliet, IL). Walking into the lobby, I was greeted by a lady who said, “It’s good to see you here, I want to tell you something.” She continued with these words, “I want to say ‘Thank you’ for starting the new church in Bensenville (The Anchor CC). My mother and family are all going to church and loving it. They are also growing closer to Jesus. Thank you for doing what you do.” I told her, “You have just made my day!” A few minutes later, her husband saw me and said, “My mother-in-law is going to the Ignite church in Bensenville, they are getting involved and loving it.” What a great way to start a Sunday morning!
I was thinking about this story as I drove away from Crossroads: what would have happened if we had not started a new church in Joliet 5 years ago? Would the family who greeted me on Sunday have been in church? Because Ignite did start a church, they are a vital part of Crossroads and they have helped their family find Jesus in another new church.
In this, I see the multiplication factor in action. We start new churches that reach people for Jesus. Each new church accelerates the spread of Jesus’ mission across Chicagoland. From Joliet, to Bensenville, to….I can’t wait to hear the next story!
