Journey Begins in Elmhurst

There is something special about the opening day of a new church.  Sunday was another special day as Journey Christian Church was born in Elmhurst, IL.  212 people showed up that first morning and were greeted by a happy group of people who were waiting to meet them.

I was outside the conference center greeting people as they walked in.  It’s hard to describe the feeling of seeing car after car pull into the parking lot.  I realize that every car contains people who are coming to this new church hoping to connect with God.  As I greeted them, I thanked them for coming and welcomed them to Journey.

Inside, they were greeted warmly by the people of the church.  Some put their children into the Kid’s Highway program and others went directly into the auditorium where they were welcomed by Steve Baker and his staff.  Additional chairs were pulled from storage as the room filled up and the atmosphere was electric!  The services went well and as I stood outside thanking people for coming, I knew that many of them would return, for they were happy they had come.

This was the 24th new church Ignite has been a part of since 2001 and I have had the privilege of being at most of the starts.  I love what I do and can honestly say that the feeling of joy and satisfaction from starting new churches never grows old.  In fact, it makes me want to start more churches.  This is our second church around O’Hare, more to follow!
