“You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” I don’t know who made this statement, but it makes a lot of sense. I was meeting with one of our church planters the other day as he considered a bold step for the church’s future. He asked me, “What do you think?” My response, “Realistically, it’s a long shot at best, but if you don’t ask, you will never know.”
It’s not always easy to see opportunities that are present. Even when seen, some opportunities look so daunting that they appear to be out of reach. Yet, if we don’t take a shot, we’ll never know what could happen.
Planting a new church is not an easy endeavor. At Ignite, we do our best to research the field, pray for and assess the right planter and then resource that planter with finances, people and help. With this said, we also know from experience that not every church plant survives and thrives. Church planting is difficult and the enemy fights very hard against our planting efforts.
I am grateful to be a part of an organization that boldly commits to taking the shots. We have learned from mistakes and failures and will continue to start new churches across Chicagoland. Not everything works like we plan, but when it all comes together…what a thrill it is to see.
Don’t let fear or failure stand in your way, keep shooting and see what God can do!
